About Tyler Waxman

Tyler is a process driven artist whose non-objective drawings and paintings focus and embrace the act of mark making. It is with the intention of letting go of a conscious plan or structure that Tyler begins his work. As the process unfolds Waxman responds to the dynamic and intrasubjective encounter. As both an artist and a clinical psychologist, Tyler attempts to explore the conscious and unconscious workings of the mind. The work shown here consists of paintings made with oil and wax on canvas, and drawings created with ink and watercolors. Both sets of work reveal the artist’s unconscious imagery and explorations. The works on view act as a sort of visual diary of “automatic” mark making, revealing the artist’s most vulnerable moments in the studio.
